Binaural Meditation as the name suggests, is an auditory method of meditation. Binaural Mediation isn’t a new concept and different people and organizations use this form of meditation to help enhance skills.

So how does it work? Binaural Meditation involves playing a distinct sound in one ear and then playing a similar sound at a different pitch, in another ear. The result is a brain that tries to find the frequency or beat between these two sounds. This frequency is really the difference between the two played sounds. This beat may not really exist but because of the way the beats are played our brain looks for the middle beat. It should also be noted that headphones are used and that both ears are in use.

Though some study has been done on how binaural beats and how they work, the effect of the beats seem to be somewhat subjective in that different people react to them differently. Binaural Meditation commonly affects the subject in such a way that they are completely relaxed, rather like regular meditation, though in this case the use of light or sound is predominant. The use of the beats can take the user from one consciousness to another according to the sounds that are listened to.

Another common effect that has been brought up is the ability to heal ailments. Headaches and insomnia are improved with repeated listening and psychological ailments such as depression are also believed to be treatable, or improved with the use of binaural beats.

From a mental standpoint, the ability of this type of meditation to improve memory functions makes it ideal for students and high mental jobs. Since it is believed to clear the mind, it is also easier for someone to focus on activity. It should be noted though that at the start the effect continues for a while but has to be nurtured. As the person continues to meditate the long term effect is more beneficial since the brain learns to improve and become more efficient. The brain is also believed to be capable of reaching the state of awareness of meditation without the effect of music or sound with constant practice. This is a skill though and again has to be nurtured.

Creativity is also said to be enhanced with Binaural Meditation. The state of mind right before sleep and after sleep is thought to be one of the most creative. This is not just because of the fact that the mind is ready to go into the dreaming stage but also because the mind is relaxed at this stage. This relaxation occurs physiologically as well as psychologically and this enhances creativity. With continued use the mind’s natural creativity improves and makes it easier to tap into those “creative juices”.

Binaural Meditation has plenty of positive effects and many people attest to it. Quite a number of companies have used it and different people from all walks of life admit to seeing improvements in their lives because of this exercise. It is important however to understand that everyone reacts in different ways and this is an important factor to consider and take heed of.
